President Pranab Mukherjee today gave away National Safety Awards to 102 people in the Mining industry for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Speaking on the occasion at a function in New Delhi, Mr Mukherjee said there is no scope for any complacency in safety matters as it involves the lives of more than ten lakh people engaged in the mining sector.

The President also called for application of the latest technologies to ensure the safety of the miners. The Labour and employment minister Mallikarjun Kharge said that his ministry is implementing in a comprehensive manner a national policy on mines safety.
