President Pranab Mukherjee today flagged off India’s first passenger solar electric vehicle from Rashtrapati Bhawan. The first passenger solar electric vehicle is manufactured by the students of Delhi Technological University. Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Technological University, Prof. P B Sharma told AIR that the weight of solar electric vehicle is around 340 kilograms against 1100 kilograms normal petrol car of 800 CC. It is driven by 8 KW DC hub motor and capable of breaking the speed barrier of 100 kilometer per hour. He said that it is zero emission and completely Eco-friendly. Sedan shape car has a comfortable drive for two persons and extendable to four persons. It is powered by flexible mono crystalline solar silicon cells of 21 per cent efficiency.
