President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has emphasised the need for timely implementation of the National Mission on Empowerment of Women in a transparent and accountable manner. Speaking at the Women’s day celebrations held at Puttaparthy in Ananthpur district of Andhra Pradesh, the President said efforts should continue to empower women through Education, Awareness and opportunities.She stressed the need for a sustainable approach towards developing a strong health infrastructure throughout the country. The Government, private sector, voluntary organizations and people can work together in this area.Recalling the services of the only woman Prime Minister of the country Indira Gandhi for upliftment of the society, the President said the tasks of providing every child – boy or girl – free and compulsory education and access to affordable healthcare must be accomplished. Stating that women still face constraints and difficulties in realising full potential despite doing well in professions once unthinkable for women, the President said women’s participation in political and economic activities will enrich the fabric of the nation. She took part in the 85th birthday celebrations of Satya Sai Baba.
