Prez calls upon judiciary to evolve mechanism to maintain balance with legislature & executive

The President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has said that the judiciary should evolve a mechanism for self discipline which can maintain balance with legislature and executive. Addressing the valedictory function of the 150th years celebration of the Calcutta High Court in Kolkata this evening Mr.Mukherjee urged the judiciary to come up to the expectation of people . The President expressed dissatisfaction over the less number of women judges in Supreme Court and High Courts.

Speaking on the occasion,The Chief Justice of Supreme Court Mr.Altamas Kabir said that wiping out of pending cases should not be the only concern while disposing of cases and proper listening have to be given to deliver justice. the Union Law Minister Dr Ashwini Kumar informed that 14,000 courts in the country will be computerised by March next year with an investment of 935 crore rupees. The West Bengal Chief Minister Mr. Mamata Banerjee also advocated for timely delivery of justice. The Chief Justice of the Calcatta High Court Mr. Arun Kumar Mishra and others also spoke on the occasion.
