President Pranab Mukherjee today said news given by media must be balanced and emotions should not overrun. Speaking at a function on the occasion of National Press Day in New Delhi, Mr Mukherjee said open mindedness and appreciation of criticism must be preserved and strengthened. <br/><br/>He said media has been the conscience keeper of the nation since ages and it must always be accountable to the whole nation. He said media should act as a watch dog and give voice to the marginalised. The President also said challenges emerge from time to time in a democracy and these must be correctly addressed. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Col (Retd) Rajyavardhan Rathore said, government stands by freedom of media. He said, media, which has great power, must also exercise great responsibility. He said, it has to be ensured that media provides information and not infotainment.
