Prez calls for integrated efforts for development in agriculture sector

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has called for integrated and sustainable efforts for development of Agriculture sector in the country. She emphasized the need for new models of farming which would be profitable to farmers in the rain fed area.

While speaking on occasion of inauguration of centenary building of College of Agriculture in Pune today, she said, more and more educated people should join in farming.

President further said that the college of Agriculture in Pune is one of the oldest and prestigious college in the country. The college has been contributing immensely towards education, research and extension activities since its inception in 1907.

In 2008 Mahatama Phule Agriculture University was awarded with prestigious ‘Centre of Excellence Award’ from Central government. It has also received a grant of 100 crore rupees from Indian Council of Agriculture Research, New Delhi .

The centenary building has come up with these funds. The building has been designed as eco friendly with natural light, ventilation and rain harvesting. The old building which was constructed in British era would be preserved as heritage site.
