Prez asks banks to give more credit to farmers

President Pratibha Patil has asked banks to extend reach of credit to farmers in order to improve productivity of agricultural sector and contribute to country's food security.Speaking at platinum jubilee function of 'Bank of Maharashtra'in Pune today, she also reminded bankers of their responsibility to protect customers interests while investing funds. The President also noted that the Indian economy is turning around with an increased industrial production. Union Minister of State for Finance Namonarayan Meena said banks should think of innovative products to reach economically weaker sections of the society and farm community.
