Pressure mounts on Karnataka CM to quit

Pressure is mounting on the Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to quit. This follows the reported revelation by Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde that Chief Minister and some of his cabinet colleagues are involved in illegal mining apart from some opposition parties. Reacting to the development, Karnataka Governor H. R. Bhardwaj said that he will go by the recommendations of the Lokayukta. He said in Bangalore on Friday that he is the only constitutional authority to take action against the Chief Minister. He told reporters that he will act on the report after he receives it from a competent authority.The Congress said that BJP has lost moral ground to head the government in Karnataka. Party spokesman Abhishekh Singhvi said that the Yaddyurappa government has no right to continue in the office.Union Minister Kapil Sibbal said that the Karnataka Chief Minister and its cabinet should take further action owning moral responsibility in the wake of the revelations of the report.The CPIM has also urged the Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddurappa to resign. In a statement in New Delhi, the party also demanded that all those named in the Lokayukta report should be prosecuted under the law. The BJP on the other hand evaded a direct reply on the issue. Party spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that the report is not complete yet.
