Press Council Chairman favours amendments in Press Council Act

The Press Council of India Chairman Justice G.N. Ray has favoured amendments in the Press Council Act to ensure effective functioning of the regulatory body. Addressing a press conference in Kolkata yesterday, Justice Ray said, the existing Press Council should be converted into a media council to deal with print as well as electronic media. Expressing concern over the incidents of paid news, he said that the Press Council has already submitted its recommendation to the Government to stop this practice. The Press Council Chairman urged the media to publish and telecast positive news about the Commonwealth Games in the larger interest of the country.
