In Uttar Pradesh, 17 policemen have been chosen for the President's Police Medal this year. Of them 14 cops including two each Additional Superintendents of police and Deputy Superintendents have been given the honour for gallantry, three have been rewarded for distinguished services. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that ASP Ashok Kumar Raghav and Dy SP Ram Badan Singh along with Brij Mohan Pal, Dharmendra Singh Yadav, Avadh Narayan Chaudhary, Rajendra Singh and Sarvesh Kumar Pal had been rewarded for nabbing three Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives from Lucknow's Gudamba police station area in 2007. They had recovered AK-47 rifles along with Chinese pistols from their possession at that time. Dy SP Arvind Chaturvedi has bagged the honour for eliminating notorious criminal Kripa Shankar Chaudhary, who carried a reward of 50,000 rupees on his head. Chaudhary was killed in a police encounter in Mumbai on July 30, 2006. Mr. Chaturvedi was the key person in the operation. Similarly, STF of state police sleuths’ inspector Abhay Narain Shukla and sub-inspector Dharmesh Kumar Shahi have been rewarded for nabbing HuJI's India commander Jalaluddin alias Naushad alias Baba from Charbagh railway station in 2007. Baba was also wanted in a kidnapping case. Besides, Baba was said to have supplied 110 kg of RDX in the country. Baba was also involved in Jaipur, Varanasi, Mumbai and New Delhi blasts. The police had recovered an AK-47 rifle and about 12 kg RDX from his possession.
