President's gift to China: A Buddha temple

President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil who is on a state visit to China has dedicated to the Chinese people an Indian style Buddhist temple at Luoyang in Henan province today. This is one of India's biggest public diplomacy initiative in China. <br/><br/>The temple has been built within the historic White Horse Monastary Complex. The Monastry was built by Emperor Han Mingdi in 68 AD to house the first two Indian Monks Kashyapa Matanga and Dharma Ratna.<br/> <br/>Inaugurating the Buddhist temple, President Patil said this is a gift of India to a sister civilisation on which we share so many valuable association and memories of interaction. She expressed the hope that the shrine will further enhance people-to-people contact between India and China by encouraging greater exchange in the current age and time to come. <br/> <br/>Vice-Chairman of Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference Ms Wang Zhizhen and several dignitaries including Buddhist Monks were present on the occasion. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the President has reached Shanghai in her last leg of six- day China visit. At Shanghai international airport, she was received by the Mayor of Shanghai Tang Deng Jie. <br/><br/>
