The President and Vice President have greeted the nation on the eve of Mahavir Jayanti. In her message, Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil wished that all people on this day resolve to banish violence in thoughts, words and deeds and strive for the establishment of a compassionate and caring society.

Mohammad Hamid Ansari, in his message, said that Bhagwan Mahavir, an apostle of non-violence, truthfulness, peace and universal love has led mankind on a righteous path. His divine teachings are relevant and inspire all to emancipate mankind from suffering.
