President visiting Assam today

The President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil is arriving at Guwahati on a two-day visit to Assam after concluding her visit to Sikkim, this afternoon. <br/><br/>According to official sources, the President is scheduled to arrive in LGBI Airport at Borjhar at 5.35 this afternoon. <br/><br/>She will attend a cultural programme organized in Hotel Brahmaputra Ashoka ground in Guwahati this evening. <br/><br/>President Patil is scheduled to inaugurate a two-day conference on ‘Access to Justice and Socio-Economic Development of North Eastern States’ at Pragjyoti ITA Complex at Machkhowa in Guwahati at 10.30 on Saturday before her departure to New Delhi. <br/><br/>The conference organized by the Guwahati High Court in cooperation with the Union Ministry of Development of the North-East Region (DONER), IGNOU and the Assam State Legal Services Authority and NALSA will be attended by around 350 judicial officers and non-governmental organization members from North Eastern States including Sikkim.<br/><br/>Later addressing the first convocation function of the Sikkim University at Saramsa near Gangtok, the President called upon the Sikkim University to become a platform for bringing forth rich heritage of Sikkim to both the local and global community. <br/><br/>She stressed that success of the University will deepen on its ability to encourage new and innovative thinking. The 23rd Central University of the Country was established on the 2nd July 2007.<br/><br/>
