President to leave for China today

The President Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil will leave on a on a six-day visit to China today. Her maiden visit to China coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China. <br/><br/>Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao told media persons in New Delhi that in first leg of her visit, the President will have extensive talks with her counterpart in China Hu Jintao on several bilateral issues. She will also meet other Chinese leaders including Chairman of the National People’s Congress Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing.<br/><br/>Mrs. Rao said that Mrs. Patil will dedicate to the Chinese people an Indian-style Buddhist temple at Luoyang. At Shanghai, the President will visit World Exposition, where the Indian pavilion has been a major draw. She will also address growing Indian community in Shaghai besides unveil a statue of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent covering the President’s visit reports that this visit is the first by an Indian Head of State to China in a decade. Developing friendly cooperation with China has been one of the priorities of New Delhi’s foreign policy and it is expected that the relationship between New Delhi and Beijing will become truly multifaceted during visit of Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil. <br/><br/>New Delhi has expressed confidence that the President’s visit will be instrumental in reaffirming and enhancing the long standing ties of friendship between both the countries. The President will be accompanied by Minister of Food Processing Suodh Kant Sahay and a business delegation.<br/>
