A nation-wide campaign Swachhata Hi Sewa will be launched tomorrow from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. President Ram Nath Kovind will formally launch it.<br/><br/>He will administer nation-wide Swachhta Hi Seva pledge initiating parallel action in all the two lakh 50 thousand plus Gram Panchayats and cities in India. A number of programmes are scheduled for tomorrow wherein Union Ministers will participate.<br/><br/>The fortnight long campaign will conclude on 2nd of October, Gandhi Jayanti. Eminent personalities, community organizations and private sector organizations will undertakes shramdaan activities.<br/><br/>The objective of the campaign is to mobilise people and reinforce the Jan Aandolan for sanitation to contribute to Mahatma Gandhi's dream of a Clean India. Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has made elaborate plans along with the State Governments to involve people from various walks of life and make it a people's campaign. Arrangements have also been made to ensure formal launch of this campaign in all States and Districts involving Governors, Chief Ministers, State Ministers, MPs, MLAs and District Collectors.<br/><br/>A special cleanliness drive is planned in 15 identified tourist places on 1st of October. The fortnight was preceded by a countrywide essay, short films and paintings competition, especially focused on schools, youth organisations, central police forces, besides general citizens.<br/><br/>Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu is scheduled to visit a village in Karnataka on Sunday and offer shramdaan for toilet construction and general cleanliness. A large number of Union Ministers, MPs and MLAs are also scheduled to offer shramdaan across the country on this day.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the last edition of Mann Ki Baat on All India Radio on 27th of last month had called upon the nation to undertake the campaign to intensify the focus on cleanliness and create an environment of cleanliness across the country in the spirit of a mass movement. He had urged all NGOs, schools, colleges, cultural and political leaders, Collectors and sarpanches, to accelerate Swachhta activities during the campaign.

President Ram Nath Kovind will launch Swacchata Hi Seva campaign tomorrow from Kanpur. <br/><br/>Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary Parameswaran Iyer said, the fortnight long campaign will run till 2nd of October, Gandhi Jayanti. <br/><br/>He said, the major elements of the campaign are massive awareness generation and community mobilization. <br/><br/>He said, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana and Uttarakhand and nearly 200 districts around the country have become Open Defecation Free. <br/><br/>He added that till now 2 lakh 36 thousand villages and 1286 cities are Open Defecation Free. Mr Iyer said, 10 states will be open defecation free by March next year. <br/><br/>He said, 94.2 Mega Watt energy is being generated from waste currently. The Secretary said, all 4500 villages on banks of the Ganges made ODF and Ganga Grams are being developed there.
