President Pratibha Devising Patil will be holding one-on-one meeting with the Lao President Choummaly Sayasone this morning in Vientiane (Venshane) during her ongoing visit to Laos. A few agreements are likely to be signed between the two countries to strengthen business ties as well as relations in Education and Cultural sectors. Delegation level talks also will be held between the two sides. AIR correspondent M. S. Lakshmi reports that Today’s high level talks to be taken place a short while from now between President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and her Lao counter part have gained significance in the back drop of India’s thrust on Look East Policy. The delegation level talks are also expected to lead to signing of few agreements between the two sides especially to strengthen India’s involvement in Lao especially in Educational and cultural exchange and Infrastructure building. As the President has already indicated the extension of Education programme that India has been supporting is expected to give a boost to the historic relations between the two countries. Meanwhile, an electricity sector project of 115KV double line circuit constructed through a loan from India is also being jointly inaugurated by the Presidents of both the nations today. A rural electrification and Hydro power projects with Indian involvement are also under progress. Earlier, The President has stressed on the cooperation for fighting the menace of terrorism in the ASEAN region. Addressing the Indian community at the reception held in her honour at Viantiane, she said the Indian economy has weathered the impact of global financial crisis with resilience and is growing at rates it has achieved prior to the crisis.
