National Sports Day is celebrated today to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil will confer National Sports and Adventure Awards at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening. The awards to be presented include Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratan award, Arjun Award, Tenzing Norgay National Adventure award, Dyan Chand and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophies. All India Radio will broadcast the programme live from 5-55 pm onwards. This will be available on Rajdhani 450.5 meters and will be relayed by all multi-channel AIR Stations on one of their primary channels.
