President Pranab Mukherjee has stressed the need for setting up internal audit mechanism in various government and public sector enterprises, PSEs. He said, it will go a long way as an effective tool and work as complimenting the role of Comptroller and Auditor General, CAG.

Inaugurating the 26th Conference of Accountants General in New Delhi today, Mr. Mukherjee said that performance of resources is necessary but it is more essential to use these resources judiciously. He said, CAG's role has become more important and dynamic than ever in the past due to increasing aspiration and demand for better services from the government.

On this occasion, CAG, Mr. Vinod Rai said that today all institutions including CAG are in the public eye, so it is imperative to make institutions like CAG more responsive to these changes.
