Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh has returned to the country on Friday after spending three months in Saudi Arabia recovering from an assassination attempt in June. This was announced by Yemen’s official news agency Sabanet on Friday. Yemen is facing eight months of protests in which tens of thousands have taken to the streets to demand an end to Saleh’s 33-year rule.His return has came amid escalation of violence between pro and anti-government forces in the capital Sanaa, bringing the death count from five days of violence to more than 100.The United States, Saudi Arabia and other countries in the Middle East fear that al-Qaeda’s Yemen wing could exploit the growing lawlessness in the country.
