President reaches Oslo on six day visit to Norway, Finland; India, Norway likely to ink nuclear agreement

President Pranab Mukherjee, who is in Oslo on the first leg of his 6-day visit to Norway and Finland, will meet Norway’s head of state King Herald fifth and other dignitaries today. Mr. Mukherjee is the first ever Indian head of state to visit Norway.

During the President's visit, India and Norway are expected to reach an agreement on nuclear safety measures. Other agreements to be inked are in the fields of education, trade and earth sciences.

AIR correspondent reports that President Pranab Mukherjee got a warm welcome in Oslo, the land of midnight sun, on his arrival. The chilly weather did not dampen the spirit of Norwegians dignitaries and Indian official to accord a traditional welcome to President.

Today, President will also visit Fram Museum from where he will speak with Indian scientists working at Himadri–the country's first Arctic research station located at Svalbard through a visual link. He will also interact with Indian PhD students studying at the University of Svalbard.
