President Ram Nath Kovind confers Khel Ratna to Devendra Jhajharia, Sardar Singh

President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna and Dronacharya Awards on eminent sportspersons at a function at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi today on the occasion of National Sports day.<br/><br/>Devendra Jhajharia became the first para athlete to receive India's highest sporting honour Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna along with hockey star Sardar Singh.<br/><br/>Javelin thrower Jhajharia is the only Indian to win two Paralympic gold medals. He had also clinched a gold medal at the 2013 World Championships.<br/><br/>Star mid-fielder Sardar had become India's youngest captain at the age of 22 and has two Asian Games medals.<br/><br/>Boxer L Devendro Singh, Cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, para athlete Mariappan Thangavelu, Varun Singh Bhati, Wrestler Satyawart Kadian, Athlete Khusbir Kaur, Arokia Rajiv, Archer V J Surekha were among the reciepent of the Arjuna award from the President.<br/><br/>Dronacharya awards were conferred on Badminton coach GSSV Prasad, Boxing coach Baja Bhusan Mohanty, Hockey coach PA Raphel, Shooting coach Sanjoy Chakraverthy and Wrestling Coach Roshan Lal. Athletics coach R Gandhi was conferred the award posthumously.
