President Pranab Mukherjee today gave away the 64th National Film Awards in New Delhi. He conferred Dadasaheb Phalke Award to eminent Director K.Vishwanath for the year 2016. <br/><br/>Akshay Kumar was conferred Best Actor award for his role in Hindi Movie – Rustom. Malayalam actress Surabhi was given best actress for her role in – Minnaminungu – The Firefly. <br/><br/>The best Hindi film award was conferred to Sonam Kapoor starrer-Neerja. Marathi Movie, Kaasav, directed by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar has been awarded the Best Feature Film Award. Hindi movie 'Dhanak' directed by Nagesh Kukunoor got the best children film award. <br/><br/>Telugu movie 'Sathamanam' Bhavathi has been conferrd as the Best popular film providing wholesome entertainment. The Best Film on social issue was awarded to Hindi movie- Pink. <br/><br/>Addressing the gathering, President Pranab Mukherjee said, National film award reflects the diversity of India. He said, universal brotherhood, tolerance are part of Indian civilisation and films portray it through their work.<br/>Speaking on the ocassion, Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that Indian Cinema has showcased vast richness of the country's diversity and has been a unifying force in promoting national integration. <br/><br/>He said, language of cinema is universal and government is promoting and encouraging film making. The Minister said, cinema should preserve cultural treasures of the nation and keep the values given by ancestors. <br/>Minister of State Rajyavardhan Rathore was also present on the occasion.
