President Pranab Mukherjee today presented the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards for the year 2014 at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Musicologist S R Janakiraman, filmmaker and theater doyen M S Sathyu, Indian classical singer Vijay Kichlu and musician Tulsidas Borkar were given the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi fellowships. <br/><br/>Thirty-nine artistes from the fields of music, dance, theater and puppetry were given Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards. They include Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan and Nath Narelkar for Hindustani vocal, Pandit Nayan Ghosh for tabla, Ronu Majumdar for flute, R Santhanagopalan for Carnatic vocal, T A Kaliyamurthy for Thavil, Sukanya Ramgopal for Ghatam and Dwaram Durga Prasad Rao for violin. <br/><br/>In dance, Adayar Janardanan was awarded for Bharatanatyam, Uma Dogra for Kathak, Amusana Devi for Manipuri, Vedantam Radhesyam for Kuchipudi, Sudhakar Sahoo for Odissi, Anita Sharma for Sattriya and Jagru Mahto for Chhau. Varanasi Vishnu Namboothiri was awarded for his contribution to music for Kathakali. In the field of theatre, eight eminent persons were awarded Akademi Awards. They include Asgar Wajahat, Surya Mohan Kulshreshtha, Chidambar Rao Jambe, Debshankar Haldar, Ramdas Kamath, Amod Bhatt, Manjunath Bhagwat Hostota and Amardas Manikpuri. For their contribution to traditional, folk, tribal music, dance, theatre and puppetry, eight artistes received the Akademi Awards. They are Puran Shah Koti for traditional music of Punjab, K Kesavasamy for puppetry in Puducherry, Kalamandalam Ram Mohan for make up and costume in Katahakali dance, Reba Kanta Mohanta for mask making in Assam, Abdul Rashid Hafiz for folk music of Jammu and Kashmir, K Shanathoiba Sharma for Thang-ta of Manipur, Ramdayal Sharma for Nautanki in Uttar Pradesh and Thanga Darlong for folk music Tripura.<br/><br/>Director, playwright and writer Akshara K V and musician Indudhar Nirody received the Awards for their overall contribution to Performing Arts.<br/><br/>The honour of Akademi Fellow carries a citation and a cash award of 3 lakh rupees. Akademi Awards carry a citation and a cash of 1 lakh rupees.<br/><br/>Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma and eminent personalities in the field of music, dance and theater were present on the occasion.
