President Pranab Mukherjee to attend Khongjom Day in Manipur tomorrow

All preparations have been made for tomorrow's Khongjom Day Observation in Manipur. President Pranab Mukherjee will be the chief guest at the main function to be held at Khebaching of Khongjom in Thoubal District. <br/><br/>The Day is observed every year remembering the war heroes of Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 who had sacrificed their lives fighting against the British to protect freedom of Manipur.<br/><br/>In the morning, State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh will lead the state in paying floral tribute to the statue of Paona Brajabashi who led the Manipuris in the fight against the British at the Battle of Khongjom.<br/><br/>In the afternoon, President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the newly constructed Khongjom War Monument at Khebaching. He will also pay floral tribute to the war heroes of Khongjom Battle at the war monument. <br/><br/>State Governor V. Shanmuganathan, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, other ministers and MLAs of the state will also attend the inaugural function of the war monument.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Imphal and Thoubal in view of the proposed visit of the President. Search operations are going on in many localities of Manipur valley as a precautionary measure. <br/><br/>Police check-points have also been opened at many critical points on the way from Imphal to Khongjom to prevent any untoward incident.
