President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurates Green Line of Bengaluru Metro

President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated 'Namma Metro' Phase I on the Green Line between Mantri Squre and Yelachenahalli at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru today. The 42.2 km stretch connects people with faster Rail transport across the city and the project was completed at a cost of 13,500 crore rupees.<br/><br/>Speaking after the inauguration, the President said, metro rail services is the way ahead to help fast transport in the growing cities in the country and 12 more cities are lined up for such services. Mr. Mukherjee said, Bengaluru had a great tradition with the people in the city being known for good culture and the growing city needed a better transport service due to increasing traffic flow. The President appreciated government's move to introduce Metro in 12 more cities. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Union Urban Development Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu said, Centre and State governments should work together for the development of the Nation. He said, Centre is making a new Metro policy for the entire country. <br/><br/>The Purple Line connecting Byappanahalli in the west and Mysore Road in the east became functional in April 2016. The Green Line of the Metro connects Nagasandra in the North up to Yelachenahalli station in the south. The Metro is expected to serve at least five lakh commuters from tomorrow.

President Pranab Mukherjee today inaugurated the Green Line of Metro Rail from Mantri Square Sampige Road Station to Yelachanahalli Metro Station in Bengaluru. <br/><br/>The President also dedicated Phase – 1 of Namma Metro to the Nation at Banquet Hall, Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat.
