President Pranab inaugurates Khongjom War Monument in Manipur

President Pranab Mukherjee has said that the nation salutes the war heroes of the Battle of Khongjom who have sacrificed their today for our tomorrow. <br/><br/>Inaugurating the newly constructed Khongjom War Monument at Khebaching in Thoubal District of Manipur on Saturday afternoon, Mr. Mukherjee said that the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 was the last war of annexation in India by the British imperial forces. He said, the Battle of Khongjom and those known and unknown heroes who have sacrificed their lives to protect the freedom of their motherland can never be forgotten.<br/><br/>Mr. Mukherjee also paid floral tribute at the war monument. Early in the morning, State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh led the state in paying obeisance to the statue of Paona Brajabashi, who led the Manipuris in the fight against the British at the Battle of Khongjom.
