President & PM Modi congratulate Deepa Malik

President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have congratulated Deepa Malik for winning a silver medal in the women's shot put throw at the Rio Paralympics. In a message, Mr Mukherjee said the entire nation is rejoicing at her achievement. In a tweet last night, Mr Modi said Deepa's silver medal at the Paralympics has made the nation very proud. She has created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympics by throwing her personal best of 4.61 metre yesterday. <br/><br/>Deepa, an Arjuna awardee, hails from Sonipat district of Haryana. State Chief Minister Manohar Lal has announced a cash award of 4 crore rupees for her. Congratulating Deepa for her achievements, the Chief Minister said the cash award is being given to her as per the new sports policy of the state. Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel also took to his Twitter handle to congratulate the para-athlete on her amazing feat.
