President Pranab Mukherjee today paid glorious tributes to Pandit Madan Mohan Tarkalankar, one of the pioneers of Bengal's renaissance in the 19th century at the birth place of the doyen of Bengali vernacular education in Nadia, West Bengal today. <br/><br/>Inaugurating Pandit Tarkalankar's bicentenary birth anniversary celebrations at his native village, Bilwagram, the President said, the Sanskrit scholar's association with Pandit Eswar Chandra Vidyasagar at Sanskrit College, Calcutta, unfolded an era of women's education, widow re-marriages and scientific thoughts eliminating superstitions in Bengal.<br/> <br/>The President on this occasion also laid foundation stones for a museum and a memorial arch commemorating the scholar at his birth place. <br/> <br/>The anniversary celebrations opened by the President today will continue for a week. Tarkalankar Memorial Committee has organised a seires of cultural events during the week.
