President Pranab Mukherjee today paid tributes to 9th Sikh Guru Teg Bahdur on his martyrdom day. In his message, Mr Mukherjee said, the martyrdom day is an occasion when people should draw inspiration from the teachings of Guru Teg Bahadur and strive to be worthy of his noble legacy. <br/><br/>He said, Guru Teg Bahadurji was a leader who taught people the importance of oneness of all humankind, selfless service and righteousness and his vision transcended all barriers of caste, creed, race, religion and gender. <br/><br/>The President called upon people to renew the commitment to peace and non-violence and pledge to strongly oppose forces that seek to spread enmity and terror. He asked people to strive to unite all humanity under the umbrella of a common brotherhood.<br/><br/>In his tribute Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley said, Guru Teg Bahadur was an epitome of human values, religious tolerance and sacrifice. The Minister said, his teachings and ideals instilled moral rectitude in people and inspired them to stand against the religious suppression practiced by Mughal King Aurangzeb. He said, the great saint sacrificed his life to secure freedom of faith for others. Mr Jaitley called on people to follow the teachings of Guru Teg Bahadur.
