President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has laid foundation stone to the Museum of Traditional Asian Textiles under the Mekang-Ganga Cooperation Programme this morning at Siem Reap (Seam Reep) in Cambodia. The President has laid foundation to the 1.7 million dollar project for which the Cambodian Govt. has provided one hectare land at a country side of Siem Reap. The project has been originally conceived at a cost of 1 million dollars in 2002. The museum will have training centre, work shop for Cambodian artists and a fashion designing centre will also be set up. Indian Council for Cultural Relations will be nodal agency from India’s side. Large number of local villagers and students took part in the programme. Earlier, she has been accorded a rousing reception in which school children took part in big numbers at the Siam Reap Airport on the fourth day of her visit in Cambodia.
