President Pranab Mukherjee today conferred the Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme, NSS Awards for the year 2014-15 to fifty seven persons at a function in Rashtrapati Bhawan. <br/><br/>The objective of the award is to the recognize and reward outstanding contributions towards voluntary community service made by the Universities, Senior Secondary Councils, NSS Units, Programme Officers and NSS Volunteers with a view to further promote NSS. Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.<br/> <br/>The Award was instituted during 1992-93 for giving recognition to outstanding work done under the National Service Scheme. The National Service Scheme is one of the flagship programmes of the Government of India which aims at development of personality and character of students through voluntary community service.
