President Pranab Mukherjee has called upon Industry to fund the academic and basic research in higher educational institutions. He was addressing an impressive gathering after formally inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Osmania University in Hyderabad this afternoon. <br/><br/>He emphasized the need for institutions of higher education to focus on research, innovation and interaction with society. Stating that the country is lagging behind in basic research, the President said, it can achieve economic advancement and regain its rightful place among the international community only when it excels in basic research and innovation.<br/><br/>Recalling that there were several institutions of higher education in the country centuries ago, Mr Mukherjee said, higher education institutions made rapid strides in the country off late. <br/><br/>He also said, 800 world-class experts are coming to the country for teaching through networking between the institutions. Stating that there is still scope for revolutionary changes in higher education field, he said, institutes like IITs and IIMs are ensuring 100 per cent employment through campus recruitments. <br/><br/>The President asked the universities to provide right forum for interaction and sharing of ideas and make rapid strides on development path.
