President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will be leaving on a ten-day visit to Laos and Cambodia this morning. She will be accompanied by Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Kantilal Bhuria and a high-level business and official delegation on the two-nation 10-day state visit. The President will start her tour with a five-day visit to Laos and hold talks with President Choummaly Sayasone and Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. After Laos, she will visit Phnom Penh and meet Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni. According to External Affairs Ministry, she will hold high level discussions during the visit and a few agreements are likely to be signed between India and these two countries. AIR correspondent M.S. Lakshmi reports that President Pratibha Devisingh Patil is set to give a boost to the Country’s Look East policy as she is heading today on a ten-day state visit to Laos and Cambodia, who are supportive of India's bid for permanent membership of the UN Security Council. On her first visit to Laos, the President will hold high level talks on a range of bilateral issues, including economic and cultural ties. After Laos, she will leave for Cambodia, presently the coordinator of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and hold discussions at the highest level in which the two sides will seek to take forward their economic and energy ties. Besides few provinces in the two countries, the President will also visit Siem Reap, home of famous temples of Angkor Wat. The President’s 10-day visit is aimed at further renewing momentum to India’s multi-faceted ties with Southeast Asia.
