President Ramnath Kovind arrived in Ahmedabad on a two day visit to Gujarat. This is his first to Gujarat after assuming the highest office in the country. <br/><br/>Mr. Kovind was welcomed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad by Governor O. P. Kohli, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, and Speaker of assembly Ramanlal Vora along with other dignitaries. President was also given traditional guard of honour at the Ahmedabad airport.<br/><br/>AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that President Mr. Kovind directly went to Sabarmati Ashram from Ahmedabad Airport. He took a traditional tour of the historic Sabarmati Ashram which is celebrating centenary of its foundation. Governor Mr. Kohli and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani along with other dignitaries were remained present on the occasion. President Mr. Kovind garlanded the picture of Mahatma Gandhi and also visited the archives of the ashram.<br/><br/><br/><br/>In the visitor book of the Sabarmati Gandhi ashram, President wrote his feelings on the occasion and termed his visit as a matter of 'privilege'. The trustees of the Ashram presented him with replica of spinning wheel -Charkha and a copy of Gandhiji's autobiography. <br/><br/>After the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram's visit Mr. Kovind flew to North Gujarat town of Mahesana by chopper. Mr. Kovind is attending the various programmes at Mehsana on the occasion of the 83rd birthday of eminent Jain Saint Acharya Padmasagarsuriji Maharaj, who was observing Chaturmas.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent adds that President Mr. Kovind would go to Rajkot to have Darshan at Ghela Somnath temple near Jasdan tomorrow. He will also lay foundation stone of link – 4 of Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation -SAUNI- Scheme. SAUNI project, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims at filling 115 major dams by diverting overflow of water from the Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada River in Kevadiya in Central Gujarat. President would also address a meeting on the occasion.<br/> <br/>
