President invites Oman to join "Make in India" to build India as manufacturing hub

Oman has been invited to join the "Make in India" initiative to build India as the global hub of manufacturing. President Pranab Mukherjee has extended the invite to public and private companies from Oman when the visiting Commerce and Industry Minister of Oman, Dr Ali Bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, called on him at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. During his meeting, the President told Al Sunaidy that India-Oman ties are built on the strong foundation of historical and civilizational linkages and India appreciates and values the strategic partnership. He also thanked Oman for its support in anti-piracy operations. The Oman minister said friends like India have fuelled Oman's economy and helped its growth. He lauded the role of Indian community and the professionals in Oman and said there was a need for the two countries to re-connect keeping in mind the interests of the youth. India and Oman have seen a progressive growth in trade and commerce over the years. Bilateral trade between India and Oman has increased from $ 4.6 billion in 2012-13 to $ 5.77 billion in 2013-14. The Oman minister is heading a delegation to take part in the Seventh Joint Commission Meeting, JCM between the two countries in New Delhi today. Ahead of the JCM, a meeting of India Oman Joint Business Council was held in New Delhi. It is expected that the Seventh Joint Commission meeting will give further impetus to the economic and trade relations between India and Oman.
