President inaugurates 500th year celebrations of coronation of Srikrishna Devaraya

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has emphasised on working for welfare of people to ensure all round development and prosperity of the nation. <br/><br/>Formally inaugurating the celebrations of 500th year of coronation of Srikrishna Devaraya, the emperor of Vizayanagar Kingdom, in Hyderabad today, the President has asked the policy makers and politicians to make delivery systems more affective so that the progress would reach all segments of society especially marginalised sections. <br/><br/>Drawing lessons from the multi-faceted ruler of the 16th century, she said rural development programmes should be focussed in a manner that villages become progressive economic units as 70 percent of our population still live in rural areas. Stating that knowledge and innovation are key to the future, the President has also stressed the need to promote commerce and industry. <br/><br/>The president unveiled a statue of Sri Krishnadevaraya. Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy and his cabinet colleagues were also present. Before leaving for Delhi, she has been accorded a ceremonial sent off at the Begumpet Airport.
