The President, Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, today inaugurated the 5th National Conference on Krishi Vigyan Kendra in the lake city Udaipur. The three-day conference will focus on entrepreneurship development of the farmers. More than 1500 agriculture scientists are participating in this conference.Addressing the inaugural session of the conference, the President outlined the need for a second green revolution in the country to meet the growing food demand of the increasing population. She said that an estimated 70 per cent growth in agricultural sector is required, for which new agricultural techniques will have to be put into practice and more attention will have to paid on research and development. Mrs. Patil said that government, corporate sector, NGOs and other stakeholders should come together to increase the productivity in the agriculture sector. She suggested that farming should be made more economically viable and prosperity of farmers should be given top priority. The Governor of Rajasthan Mr. Shiv Raj Patil, Chief Minister Mr. Ashok Gehlot, Union Rural Development Minister C.P. Joshi and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Mr. Thomas were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
