President expresses concern over use of Money power in elections; National Voters Day being observed today

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today expressed concern over the influence of money in the elections. Speaking at the concluding ceremoney of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Election Commission of India in New Delhi Ms. Patil said that good electoral practices and high conduct will attract the youth as well as talented people to politics. On paid news, she said, the Election Commission will continue to look at ways and means to make electoral processes much more robust and free of any malpractices.The President also launched the National Voters Day. Patil handed over Voters Identity Cards to five newly enrolled voters. The voters were given a badge with a slogan 'Proud to be a voter – Ready to Vote,' during the felicitation ceremony. The function marks the culmination of year long diamond jubilee celebration of the Commission. The Election Commission has launched the National campaign to seek the participation and registration of new voters in the electoral process.
