President Pranab Mukherjee today called for a unified effort from the people to contribute towards eradicating hunger. Speaking at the Adamya Chetana Seva Utsava 2017 in Bengaluru today, he said that governments alone cannot achieve this objective but an unified effort from people and institutions could do it. The President appreciated Adamya Chetana Seva Foundation, for its services to the poor and its elaborate programme of feeding over two lakh poor school children in Karnataka and outside by feeding them with hot mid-day meals. <br/><br/>Mr. Mukherjee said, people should come together to contribute to empowering the hungry child who are the future of our society and assets of our nation. The President recalled how he headed a summit in 1995 in Copenhagen, Denmark when heads of governments and nations came together to invite institutions to take up schemes to help the poor and hungry across the world. <br/><br/>Earlier, the president dedicated the Sri Shankara National Centre for Cancer Prevention and Research in Bengaluru. Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Chemicals and Fertilizer Ananth Kumar, Karnataka State Health & Family Welfare Minister K.R.Ramesh Kumar took part in the event. This four day event will go with an exhibition put up by the Defence wing.
