President calls for transparency & accountability in public life

President Pranab Mukherjee has called for strengthening good governance and to ensure benefits of the schemes meant for the poor and underprivilged reach them without fail. He termed corruption as a threat to the democratic fabric of the country. Addressing the golden jubilee function of CBI today Mr.Mukherjee said, lack of good governance is identified as the root cause of various defficiencies in society.

Mr.Mukherjee said, inclusiveness calls for equity in access to basic needs and upliftment of marginalised sections of people. Urging all stake holders in administration to focus on the good and welfare of the people, Mr. Mukherjee stressed for improving transparency, accountability and probity in public life. The President said, the Electronic Direct Benefit Transfer and Unique identity system – Adhaar would increase transparency and reduce leakages and transaction costs.

The president said, the government is working towards empowering citizens with legal rights for their needs including food, education health and employment opportunities.
