President Ram Nath Kovind has awarded the Prestigious 'President's Colours' to the Submarine Arm of the Indian Navy today at a colorful presentation Ceremony at Eastern Naval Command headquarters in Visakhapatnam. <br/><br/>Addressing the officials and dignitaries at the ceremony organized on the occasion of its Golden Jublee celebrations, the president said our maritime interests are directly linked to India's economy and security and to the well-being of our people. <br/><br/>He opined that the increasing trade on sea enhances the role of the Indian Navy not just in national security but in the wider process of Nation's building. Mr Kovind eulogised the role of<br/>the Navy which is India's main instrument of sea power to guard our maritime interests, both military and civilian, he added. <br/><br/>The Presidents colours was awarded by the President amidst traditional parade and religious prayers as recognition to Indian Navy's meritorious services. President has taken Guard of Honour from the Navy personnel. <br/><br/>Submarine arm of the Indian Navy came into operation at Visakhapatnam with the then Chief of Naval Staff Admiral AK Chattarjee laying foundation stone for the Submarine base. It has played a vital role during 1970-71 Indo-pak war. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, ENC chief Vice Admiral Karambir Singh and other Navy Officials participated in the presentation.<br/><br/>
