President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, arrived at the Kochi International Airport by a special aircraft a short while ago. She was received at the airport by the Kerala Governor, Mr. R.S. Gavai, the State Health Minister, Mrs. P.K. Srimathi, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral K.N. Sushil, Director General of Police, Mr. Jacob Punnoose among others. Mrs. Patil later left for Kumarakom in Kottayam district where she will inaugurate the valedictory of the birth centenary of St Alphonsa at Bharananganam this evening. She will also launch the St Alphonsa Hospice and the St Alphonsa Foundation, a medical assistance project for the poor. AIR Kochi Correspondent reports that tight security measures are in place at the resort in Kumarakom, where the President will stay for the night. Fishing and boating activities in Kumarakom lake have been restricted.
