President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil arrives in Kochi this afternoon on a three day visit to Kerala. Mrs. Patil who arrives at the Cochin International Airport by a special aircraft, will leave for Kottayam, where she will inaugurate the valedictory of the birth centenary of St Alphonsa at Bharananganam this evening. She will also launch the St Alphonsa Hospice and the St Alphonsa Foundation, a medical assistance project for the poor. Tight security measures are in place at the resort in Kumarakom, where the President will stay for the night. Fishing and boating activities in Kumarakom Lake have been restricted. Tomorrow the President will dedicate to the nation a lotus shaped marble parnasala at the Santhigiri Ashram at Pothencode near Thiruvananthapuram. She will also inaugurate the closing ceremony of the P N Panicker Birth Centenary celebrations in the state capital. On Saturday, Mrs. Patil will be the Chief Guest at the annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race at Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha district.
