President arrives at Thimpu on 2-day visit to Bhutan

President Pranab Mukherjee arrived at Thimpu on a two-day visit to Bhutan this morning. He was received by the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at Paro International Airport. The President was accorded a warm welcome and also received a Guard of Honour by royal Bhutanese Army. Mr. Mukherjee is the first Indian head of state to visit to the country in 26 years. During the visit, Mukherjee will hold meetings with Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay besides other leaders to take bilateral ties to a new level. Our correspondent covering the visit reports that the President will address a programme on Indo-Bhutan relation at Thimpu this afternoon. A memorandum of Understanding on establishment of Nalanda University and agreement in the field of Education will be signed in presence of President and top leadership of Bhutan.
