President addresses golden jubilee celebrations of IIT Kanpur

The President, Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil today said, that basic research, laboratory and experimental facilities and intellectuals resources are required to keep pace of scientific and technological development of the country. Addressing golden jubilee celebrations, of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, she said that there are several challenges that confront our nation including global issues of energy deficit and environment. Mrs. Patil said technical institutes accepts the challenge to inspire Engineers and Scientists to develop the devices which can harness energy in more efficient ways while at the same time have minimal negative impact on the environment. She said, there is a great scope for wind and solar energy production in our country. She said, scientists should include a mission and objective on how they can serve society through their skills. She also handed over a satellite named Jugnoo, developed by the students of the institute to the scientist of Indian Space Organisation. The President also unveiled time capsule consisting 50 years of glorious history of the institute.<br/><br/>
