The audio museum of Akashvani is a mirror of India’s rich cultural identity and thus a symbol of India’s rich musical heritage. Stating this at a function organized by Prasar Bharati Mumbai, Chairperson of the Corporation Mrinal Pande said preservation of Indian music, ranging from classical, folk, Hindustani is one of the main priorities of Akashvani.On the occasion of the birth centenary of Pandit Gajananrao Joshi, Prasar Bharati Mumbai she released twin CDs of Pandit Joshi’s soulful singing and violin rendition. She also presented the first set to Pandit Joshi’s Son, Manoharao Joshi, in the presence of Prasar Bharti, CEO, Rajeev Thakru and Director General, AIR, Naureen Nauqvi.Mrs. Mrinal Pandey said that Akashvani has a rich heritage of more than 18,000 hours of precious and exclusive recordings, including live recordings of speeches, poetry, songs, music, etc of eminent personalities. She said that Pandit Joshi, a pioneer of the Gwalior Gharana is one such gem.Pandit Joshi was a top grade artist of All India Radio. He had also received various awards including Tansen Award, ITC Award and Sangeet Kala Academy Award. The twin CD pack contains Panditji’s recitation of Rag Bhopali and Rag Rasa along with his presentation for the Akashvani Sanget academy in October 1960.To mark the occasion, a music concert has also been organized with Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar’s vocal recital and a violin jugalbandi between Vidushi Dr. N. Rajam and Sangeeta Shankar.
