Present reservation policy to continue: Law Min Sibal

Law Minister Kapil Sibal has assured the Lok Sabha today that the present reservation policy will continue without any change. Intervening during zero hour mentions in the House, Mr. Sibal said that if necessary, the government will bring an amendment to the Constitution to ensure reservation to SCs/STs and OBCs in government jobs. He said that he will speak to Attorney General in this regard. He said, the government had already filed a review petition in the Supreme Court and also an application for early hearing of the petition.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad clarified that reservation will continue in the recruitment of teaching posts in AIIMS. Earlier, raising the issue, Sharad Yadav of the JD(U) asked the government for taking measures to ensure unbridled continuation of the reservation policy. He was supported by many members.

Later, the House took up Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill, 2011 for consideration and passing. The Bill was tabled by Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. The discussion is continuing amidst uproarious scene.
