Preparations for CWG in full swing

Preparations are in full swing in the national capital for the Commonwealth Games. Most of the venues are ready for the games and at some venues finishing touches are being given. The games are scheduled to begin on 3rd of next month and conclude on 14th. The Group of Ministers on Thursday reviewed the security arrangements for the mega sports event. Later talking to reporters, the Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, who is also the Chairman of the GoM said that all the venues will be sanitized by Police from Monday. Earlier, the government briefed the envoys of 40 heads of missions on the security arrangements made for the Commonwealth Games. The Foreign Secretary Mrs. Nirupama Rao assured them that all steps are being taken to ensure the security of visiting dignitaries and players. The organizing Committee for the Commonwealth Games has made elaborate arrangements to ensure best health facilities for the players and other visitors. Three hospitals have been designated to take care of health related issues, besides setting up of poly clinic at games village and medical centers at all stadia. Over one thousand eight hundred dedicated doctors and other staff have been identified to be part of the specialized medical work force for the games. Apart from this, 24 hour emergency medicine and dental care is also being established to provide round the clock medical facilities to players. With just a fortnight left, the sale of tickets for the Games has picked up. More than 60 thousand tickets have been sold so far for the Hockey tournament alone. The Games Organizing Committee is targeting to get revenue of one billion rupees from the sale of tickets. AIR correspondent reports that nearly eight thousand five hundred players are expected to take part in the different events of the games. This is a first major sporting event organized in Delhi after the 1982 Asian Games resulting in the development of infrastructure for the games. This is expected to provide better facilities to Indian players in future to shine in other mega sports events across the world.
