Preparations for Commonwealth Games next year are in place

New Delhi says the Commonwealth countries participating in the 2010 games are satisfied with the security arrangements for the event. Talking to reporters at the end of the two day security liaison conference for the games in New Delhi today, the Home secretary, Mr. GK Pillai said that all the countries were impressed by the arrangements made for the secure conduct of the games. He said, 30 Heads of the States and Governments are expected to watch the games to be held between 3 to 14 th of October next year. Mr. Pillai asserted that mock drills will be conducted during the test events between February to June, to ensure fool proof security. Replying a volley of questions on security concerns expressed by some countries, he said, after presentations and discussions, all the countries expressed happiness at the arrangements . The Home Secretary said, all the venues including the Games Village and the infrastructure connected with the games, besides comprehensive traffic arrangements will be in place much ahead of the games. In reply to a question, Delhi Police Chief, Mr. Y.S. Dadwal said, apart from 30,000 volunteers, more recruitment is being done in Delhi Police to keep not only the games safe, but the entire metro city. Our correspondent reports 76 security professionals from 26 Commonwealth Countries attended the two day conference . An International Security Liaison Group has also been constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate the security arrangements for the games with the member countries of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
