Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas Convention to open on 7th of Jan in Bengaluru

The 14th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas Convention will open on 7th of this month in Bengaluru. Briefing media in New Delhi, Secretary Overseas Indian Affairs Dhyaneshwar Mulay said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on 8th of this month. He said four thousand delegates are expected to attend the event at Bengaluru International Exhibition Center. Mr Mulay said President Pranab Mukherjee will participate in the event on 9th of January where he will confer Pravasi Bharatiya Samman. <br/><br/>The Secretary informed that on 7th January Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas will be held where Vice President Suriname Michael Ashwin Satyandre Adhin will be the special guest. Youth Affairs Minister Vijay Goel and Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh will also grace the youth PBD programme. This year Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa is the chief guest for the 14th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas. <br/><br/>Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas is celebrated on January 9 every year to mark the contribution of overseas Indian community in the development of India. January 9th is chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi, returned to India from South Africa, led India's freedom struggle and changed the lives of Indians forever.
